General synopsis

Humber

WIND - South 5 to 7 becoming cyclonic 4 to 6.

SEA STATE - Slight or moderate.

WEATHER - Rain, mainly later, fog patches later.

VISIBILITY - Moderate or good, occasionally very poor later.

So said the Shipping Forecast earlier today. Of course, what was happening further out to sea was probably very different to walking along Hessle Foreshore this afternoon photographing (once more) the behemoth that is the Humber Bridge.

  1. Fantastic pictures. Crossed this bridge twice...once sober, once very drunk..nuff said !!

  2. A friend of mine used to live on a boat docked in Hull Marina. He took me sailing out under the Humber Bridge once, many many years ago.

    1. Sadly this was back in the days when we didn't carry a camera with us everywhere we went.

  3. Wow, those are a great couple of photos. Never been to Hull but then again I've not been to lots of places in the UK. Trying to put that right.

    1. I'll meet you on the bridge, Alyson: I'll walk across from the south, you from the north and we'll meet in the middle. We'll embrace, exchange brown envelopes, and then walk back to our respective cars. The world will never be the same again.

  4. Wow yes, fantastic photos - and what a feat of engineering, I still can't quite get my head around how bridges are built.

    1. I have pictures of it when it was only half built. We went in 1981 on a college trip and were allowed onto the semi-completed deck by the contractor. It was a foggy morning and we walked very close to what was then a sheer drop into the River Humber.

  5. Superb shots, John. I’m hoping for the view of the underside (Humberside?) of the bridge to appear on an upcoming Joy Division retrospective.
