Dotage?

I don't even know when my dotage is supposed to start (it may well have started already without me knowing it) but these are just a few of things I've been keeping on ice for it: opera, ballet, Shakespeare; lobster, The Prisoner, swearing more, poker, winning the Lottery, pink shirts, wearing odd socks and one small discreet tattoo. As I said, it's neither a complete or exhaustive list, but it's enough to be going on with. Oh, and Tangerine Dream - they've been keeping electronic/ambient Krautrock going since the dawn of time and appear to have released more albums (with more band members) than any other group I know; sorry, don't know - hence the dotage thing. I'm sure there are plenty of jumping off points - I'll fettle it (tho; I may need The Swede to guide me thru the choppy German waters). Here's my starter for ten...

Tangerine Dream - A Haze of Patriotic Fervour (2013)

  1. Don't wait for The Prisoner, crack on with that now. Only seventeen episodes...

    1. I used to catch the Channel 4 reruns in the 80s when I came back from the pub; invariably it was the last 10 minutes so I never knew what the hell was going on. Especially in my relaxed state.

  2. Tangerine Dream should be approached with caution but you can't go wrong with Phaedra and Rubycon.

    1. Thank you, Adam. That's where I shall begin my quest.

  3. Blimey. This tune (splendid racket though it is) may well be by Tangerine Dream, but not as I knew them. Admittedly I stepped off the Tangs train sometime in the early 1980s, so I'm probably not the person to turn to regarding their recent activities. Sage advice from Swiss Adam however - by and large you can't go too far wrong with their early output from the Virgin years.
As for your dotage to-do list, a small discreet tattoo is an idea I've flirted with in recent years too, but have yet to do anything about. Opera and ballet on the other hand, I've long since written off as artforms I'm never going to grasp.

    1. Although I'm not a gamer, this 'splendid racket' is, I'm assured, from Grand Theft Auto and is definitely TD. It's a collaboration with some knob twiddlers who appear to have jazzed them up.
      I love it.

  4. I was also curious about the definitions of age, as I keep calling myself middle-aged but wondered when tenure on that runs out. At 65 it seems! Then you are old-aged. Well that definition is going straight out the window as I'm not having it. What I will be having is more time to do some of the things you have listed above. I've started working on it and sought out the Prisoner already - like you I've seen parts of episodes but never the whole thing so thanks for the reminder. As for the swearing, don't know if you've seen this one but some of us start early!
