We've all done it. Hell, John Peel practically made a living out of it; however, playing vinyl at the wrong speed isn't always a bad thing. Check this out, for instance. I found it on Twitter (where else?) and it works. No, I mean it really works. Jolene sung at 33 rpm.
Dolly Parton - Jolene (1974)
Oh- superb!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought. A (new) nailed on classic.
DeleteCan't believe that's really Dolly Parton. Sounds like a fab cover version.
ReplyDeleteI just may like it better. Digging the mournful tone. Either speed, it's a classic.
ReplyDeleteI think I do too. More haste less speed.
DeleteCrikey that sounds great - a wonderful new version. Oh and doesn't Dolly look exceptionally "party" in that still above.
ReplyDeleteI wondered what you thought of Michael Jackson's Billy Jean being given a similar treatment?
DeleteSince watching the Netfix doc about MJ I have kind of erased him from my blog and my memory banks (but that's not really fair I suppose as people have pointed out it was one-sided). I did however listen to the slow version and although not as pleasing as Dolly's it was convincing and reminded me of the singers with those deep soul voices.
DeleteBy the way, in my comment above Dolly I thought was looking "purty" but it changed it to party. Makes no sense!
I did wonder! I wasn't sure if you really meant pert.
DeleteI'll get my coat.
Didn't see this prior to my recent Jolene post John.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite remarkable
I played it to some friends at the weekend and they were genuinely staggered.
