Wish You Were Here

Wedding of the Year 2018
2018. It's had its ups and downs, for sure; but with more ups than downs, definitely. All in all it's been a good year - well, it would be, it's got an '8' in there, hasn't it?

A lot of firsts; my eyes have widened and my soul deepened, that much I do know. I also know that, pretty much like last year, my end of year round up is very simple, being both compact and bijou:

Best Wedding: James & Janneke
Best Bar/Pub: either Jenkins [Sherwood] or the Organ Grinder [Loughborough] - I really can't make my mind up
Best App: remove.bg Remove the background from any photograph Instantly (see 'Wish You Were Here' - below)

Best Walk: Attenborough Nature Reserve. By a country mile
Best Breakfast: Warsaw Diner, Canning Circus
Best Gig: The Prodigy - Nottingham Arena
Best Podcast: Ruthie - Me & My Dad
Best Radio Station: another joint 1st. prize - Soho Radio [London] / RTÉ Radio 1 [Dublin]
Best Radio Presenter: Pete Paphides
Best Book: The Chalk Man - C J Tudor (below)
Best Open Mic: The Running Horse - with a big thank you to Paul Carbuncle

Once again a big thank you to everyone who looks in my shop window, and an even bigger thank you to those who trust to luck and cross the threshold...

Have a peaceful Christmas

  1. Glad your 2018 had more ups than downs. I've made a note of The Chalk Man by CJ Tudor. Would you say it's closer to horror or thriller? Apparently (according to Amazon) the writing is reminiscent of Stephen King

    1. Hi Chris - I'd say thriller, but with horror overtones. She was saying how made up she was when Stephen King started to get behind the book; he being her hero and all.

    1. And to you and yours C.

Alyson's writing, and I'm sure she won't mind me saying this here, is so sure and strident these days. She's come of age!

  5. This will be the first and last time in my life, I appear on the same "Best of" list as Paul McCartney. Very flattered of course but many more worthy blogs out there I'm sure. What I have done this year is write about some very personal issues affecting my family - I worry that I over-share but it turns out most of us go through a similar set of issues in the course of our lifetimes (empty nests, mental heath problems, elderly parents with health issues etc) so cathartic to write about such things. It's been a joy to have people drop by and share their stories.

All the best for Christmas John. A couple of newly weds in your family this year - Shows how things move on every year, just as it should.

  6. Merry Christmas, John. In 2018, I learned I have a compadre when it comes to McCartney and Lowe.
