I've said here, on more than one occasion (and quite recently, too), that when it's quiet, I like to post nothing more taxing than, say, a library picture of Helen Mirren, or a random girl from Amsterdam riding her bike. A modern day Test Card if you will.
The idea came originally from a fellow blogger - whose name I forget, sorry - who, during a fallow period, said that rather than cancel the milk and papers he was just going to put up a photograph of Joan Collins in her 'snorkelling gear'.
Well, as you can see, here is said photograph of Joan Collins in her, ahem, snorkelling gear. It dates from the 1950s, so that would put her somewhere in her mid-twenties. Collins was already something of a Hollywood starlet around this time having played a number of sultry roles in a number of so-so movies. She had yet to put her name to the two projects I particularly remember her for. Namely, that episode of Star Trek:
Star Trek - The City on the Edge of Nowhere (1967)
And this, my favourite movie of 1978 in the category 'Best Trashy Film Adaptation of Equally Trashy Novel Written by Sister of the Leading Lady'.
The Stud (1978)
Actually, John, I think it's a wonderful idea! It's refreshing sometimes to pop over to a blog and have nothing required of our tired brains but to look at an interesting photograph that we may never have seen before.
ReplyDeleteCoincidentally, at least for now, my blog has morphed into a "photo" log of my top 'Desert Island' singles. I doubt very many enjoy lists as much as I do, but for now I'm having fun with it.
P.S. I hope you continue with your "3 Versions" series.
Thank you Marie. Photographs that are, shall we say, easy on the eye are just that. As you've probably worked out by now, my blog has no Mission Statement and does not follow any known trajectory. You may well find something you like one day, but when you stop by a couple of days later find that the layout's totally changed and you walk away thinking 'Bloody hell, what's he doing in there?'

DeleteWell, John, I had to re-read the above sentence twice more because it sounded as if you were describing 'my' blogging style and what visitors think when they see things changed from one day to the next at STRA. ;-)
If you ever change your mind about a blog invite, you can request one at any time . (Unfortunately, Blogger sends them out and an email address is required.)
Done.
DeleteWe were only talking about Joan Collins the other day, the daughters didn’t know who she was until we mentioned that episode of Star Trek ( they are such nerds) and of course who could forget her in Dynasty? As for The Stud, I always had a thing for Oliver Tobias having raced home from school to watch Arthur of the Britains .
ReplyDeleteYears later I would use that swing at The Sanctuary, close my eyes and imagine....
The opening three or four minutes of The Stud are of Collins 'putting her face on'. From nothing to full-on war paint in the time that it takes the Biddu Orchestra to rattle thru their latest single.
DeleteShe would have been 45 when she made the film and crude terms like MILF hadn't yet been coined (thankfully). But I would only have been 17 when I saw it at the pictures, so it appealed on a number of levels...
I was amazed to discover Joan is still alive and acting when I saw her pop up in the latest series of American Horror Story. Still looking good fir her age too.
ReplyDeleteI really must watch AHS Rol.
DeleteYes, still going (very much so) and, yes, still looking good.
I remember that episode of Star Trek well as it was about the only one when they went back to a 50s version of Earth (so Spock had to wear a wooly hat to hide his ears). Wouldn't have known Joan then though. She really was something in the Stud wasn't she (but oh so trashy as you say). Yes, that swing.
ReplyDeleteDespite Joan being front and centre of the film (and no body doubles were used, I'm assured), I still remember Love is Like Oxygen on the soundtrack. Does that mean I had a two track mind?
