Egypt? I Don't Know

It will not have escaped your attention that Paul McCartney has released yet another solo album. His 76th, or is that how old he is? I lose track. Time was when such an occasion was marked at Medd Towers by hotfooting it down to my local record emporium and standing in line for the pleasure of topping up Macca's latest offshore bank account.

These days I leave it to others* to try before I buy. And when I say buy, I mean rip the audio off of the Youtube video and chuck it in my digital vault where it will sit unlistened to for the rest of eternity. Sorry Macca, I know this sort of behaviour doesn't butter your parsnips, but you really have squeezed me dry over the years. The pips really are squeaking now.

*Anyway, I've let one of the best writers around, Martin Hodges, be my eyes and ears on this one - and I too think I Don't Know is the standout track. It really is. In fact, if McCartney ever released it as a 7" single on blue vinyl (and put, say, 'Jet' on the B-side), I'd pay a couple of quid for it. That I do know.

  1. Like a bad habit I can't seem to shake, I picked up his latest... in a shop to boot. Always do. I count about 10 minutes of solid listening pleasure packed inside, and I include this song. Fortunately, I paid less than 10 bucks for it.

    1. It's been a long time since Flaming Pie. A mighty long time.

  2. Hmm. Have read some glowing reviews. I didn’t think I was being tough. This seems to happen time and time again with McCartney releases. It’s the best thing since... fill in the blank. The answer is usually one of his most beloved albums. Ridiculous. At least in this case.

    1. You're right; we should make the most of it; he can't have many more to come. Can he?

Ha ha - some great lines there and yes not many of us will be hotfooting it down to our local record emporium (as it doesn't exist any more) but got to hand it to him. Still making music and only 4 years shy of being an octogenarian. I should be so lucky.

    1. I think we can agree he's not released this album because he needs the money. But has he released it because it's a collection of songs he's as happy with as he was with, say, Flaming Pie? Or Tug of War? Or McCartney? Only he knows the answer to that question.
