His appearance last week on Desert Island Discs was very revealing. Give it a listen and you may come away with different feelings towards the fella; I know I did. The way he spoke about his mother, dyslexia, Catholicism, depression and not losing his virginity until he was twenty-six was very honest and at times very touching. And when he chose 'I Will Follow You into the Dark' by Death Cab for Cutie as the record he'd save from the waves, I was practically reaching for the fan club application forms.
Death Cab for Cutie: I Will Follow You into the Dark
I have trouble with Jimmy Carr too. It's awful to say this - something he can't help - but his face winds me up, his face and his laugh. But I'm intrigued by what you say about his Desert Island Discs revelations and already feel myself softening without having yet listened to it. I'll treat myself to that later just from your recommendation here. I love it when peoople confound my expectations, at least when those you don't like on the surface turn your views around in a positive way. Not so much when the opposite happens!
ReplyDeleteEven his girlfriend tells him he has the eyes of a sex offender.
DeleteYes, give it a listen and let me know what you thought.
I can't stand him. I don't find him funny (especially when it became clear he was nicking other comics material, like Ricky Gervais - who is hardly the most original of performers anyway) I don't like that he's a tax avoiding slime who has seemingly got away with that ugly aspect in his career, I don't like his face and I hate that fake laugh he's developed. I also recall seeing him in a bar in Liverpool where his behaviour around some young ladies was a bit off. I'll say no more. I didn't intend this to sound as ranty as it has! haha
