I hear him when I listen to Gregory Porter - their voices are very similar.
My one and only visit to Dingwalls would have been around that time; I was very, very drunk. So too, apparently, was Brian Connolly - which was why he was a no show that night.
I've seen him play twice in recent years at Harrogate. He is quite simply awesome and what a lovely guy too. He puts on a fantastic show, he's relaxed, warm and witty and appears not to have aged at all in the past 30 years. Must be that rock and roll lifestyle. OT Hill
