Guy Garvey made me laugh on Desert Island Discs the other day. After painstakingly choosing eight favourite records he was asked what luxury item he would like to take to the island. Quick as a flash he replied: 'A radio.' Garvey's total missing of the point of the programme was soon glossed over by the lovely Kirsty and a pair of nail clippers or somesuch was hastily requested instead.
7/8 of Mr. Elbow's selections, however, all paled into insignificance compared to this beautiful song from Tom Waits. The line 'I'm gonna love you till the wheels come off' is, quite simply, perfect.
He may like Tom Waits but Guy Garvey is a compete idiot. I can never listen to his Sunday afternoon radio show without a sense of nausea. Sign here to get the pillock off the air.
ReplyDeleteAnd there was me thinking what a nice fella he was: someone whose company you'd enjoy over a couple of beers.
DeleteProbably is a lovely chap. Just can't abide the constant name dropping (making a joke of it does not excuse it). I also heard him talk about 'MY drummer' the other week, which the kind of thing you might expect Jagged to say. He does play some decent enough.music but I just wish he would shut up. Yes, it is harsh but he's a big rock star so he can take it.
DeleteJagged! Bloody tablets! You know.
DeleteBlimey! Harsh words there Singing Bear. I listen to aa awful lot of 6Music on my travels, but have never actually heard a Guy Garvey show, it must be the time he's on. He seems universally loved as a person by all and sundry at the station, I'll have to give him a listen to see if he has the same effect on me. Liz Kershaw and Huey Morgan would be first out the door if I had my way. Also, Craig Charles plays great tunes, but I find his DJ 'persona' incredibly irritating.
ReplyDeleteGive John Cooper Clarke a knighthood and him and Cerys daily shows.
'Mule Variations' - in my top three Tom Waits albums and a lovely choice by Mr G.
Blimey indeed! I have a list of 'targets' who I think the BBC could well do without. But 'Even Monkeys Fall Out Of Trees' is maybe not the forum to air my personal issues!
DeleteTom Waits is a one off and I'm always staggered by his music.
