Sleigh bells ring

Thankfully, The Sweet never released a Christmas single. I'm sure that back in the day the band's mentors, Messrs. Chinn & Chapman, would have moved Heaven and Earth so their charges could have followed the well trodden Slade, Wizzard and Mud path. However, in 1974 the intro to the group's own composition Own Up, Take A Look At Yourself (the B side of Chinnichap stomper Teenage Rampage) opens with some very evocative sleigh bells.

  1. It reminds me of T. Rex's "Born to Boogie" single where he kicks off by saying "First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a very merry Xmas". He was clutching at straws by that stage. Thing is, it was probably only a couple of years after Electric Warrior. Careers burned brightly in those days.

  2. Quite. Remember them this way. (Are you ready) Steve Priest & Andy Scott are the only living members (and they don't talk to each other). As for T Rex, only Bill Legend remains above ground.

  3. Your Sweet posts, and by that (I quip) I mean posts about The Sweet are always my favourite reads. Incidentally, the local shop was playing Wizzard's Christmas repeat play as I bagged some bananas this evening. If Cliff's Mistletoe and Wine followed I'd have left without paying.
